Why "Mockingbird"?

A tribute to my first editor who wrote a satirical column under the name "Busybee"? A word from one of my favorite novels? Or an indicator of my sardonic attitude? The answer to why I chose this name is in all of the above. It's also in this, what I know about the mockingbird -- the song of the mockingbird is a medley of the calls of many other birds. A mockingbird imitates these calls and then starts another one all it's own. A single bird may have 25-30 songs in its repertoire. Much inspiration to an intrepid blogger. The mockingbird also fiercely protects its nest and environment, often swooping down on what it perceives as a threat. Just right for a blog on media criticism.

It's in the P.I.

As announced a few days ago, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer has invited me to blog for it. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this newspaper, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is the oldest morning newspaper in the state of Washington and has a following throughout the Northwest. It has been "The Voice of the Northwest since 1863."

The headline of this post, "It's in the P.I.," is the official slogan of the newspaper.

The newspaper's principal Web site, SeattlePI.com, has 1.7 million unique visitors per month, generating more than 30 million page views.
